Ocean Bound Plastic Certifications help to protect our Oceans,

Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) is an “Abandoned Plastic Waste” (microplastics, mezzo-plastics and macro-plastics), on its way to our oceans.

The OBP Certification Program is designed to encourage the removal of Ocean Bound Plastic from the environment by effectively collecting and treating it before it reaches the ocean.

Below are the four categories of OBP have been defined in the OBP Certifications Program:

  1. POTENTIAL OBP
    Inadequately collected plastic waste located within a 50 km distance of the coastline
  2. WATERWAYS OBP
    Inadequately collected plastic waste located 200m from rivers and in rivers
  3. SHORELINE OBP
    Inadequately collected plastic waste located 200m from shores
  4. FISHING MATERIAL
    Used fishing gear and plastic bycatch

The certification program comprises two subprograms:
• Ocean Bound Plastic Recycling Subprogram
• Ocean Bound Plastic Neutrality Subprogram

OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC RECYCLING CERTIFICATION:

What is the objective?
To promote the collection and recycling of plastic litter at risk of reaching the ocean.

-Companies incorporating OBP in their products

OCEAN BOUND PLASTIC NEUTRALITY CERTIFICATION:

What is the objective?
To remove non-recyclable Ocean Bound Plastic from the environment

Who can apply?
– Organizations, institutions, NGOS, industries involved in the collection and disposal of OBP
– Organizations and industries specialized in recycling and recovery
– Organizations, institutions, NGOS, industries which are using OBP in their products

  • Application
    Complete the enquiry form below for an OBP Certification request. GCL International Ltd will contact you and provide an application form.
  • Contracting
    We will use the application details to produce a quotation. Once the quotation has been accepted, return a signed copy of the quotation and our Scheme Rules.
